Frederick H. Moll, MD

Frederick H. Moll is a visionary in healthcare, an icon in the medtech industry, and a pioneer in medical robotics and minimally invasive procedures. His innovation career began during medical training when he invented the safety trocar, which helped create the field of modern laparoscopic surgery. He subsequently developed the da Vinci Surgical System, the robotic platform that revolutionized minimally invasive surgery by enabling surgeons to perform complex procedures with enhanced precision and smaller incisions. His inventions have advanced the healthcare industry, improved patient outcomes, and changed the landscape and approach to surgical procedures worldwide. 

As a serial entrepreneur, Dr. Moll has founded or co-founded multiple successful companies including Intuitive Surgical, Inc. (NASDAQ:ISRG), Hansen Medical (NASDAQ:HNSN), Endotherapeutics (acquired by U.S. Surgical), Restoration Robotics (NASDAQ:HAIR), and Auris Health (acquired by J&J in April 2019 for ~$5.75B).  He has served as CEO of multiple enterprises, Chief Development Officer of Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices (following the sale of Auris Health), and as a current or past Director of boards including Moon Surgical, Procept BioRobotics, Inc. (Chairman – NASDAQ: PRCT), ShockWave Medical (NASDAQ: SWAV), Avail Medsystems, and RefleXion Medical. 

Dr. Moll received a BA in economics from the University of California at Berkeley, an MS in management from Stanford University and an MD from the University of Washington.
